Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), will administer the oath of office to eleven new justices of the Supreme Court on Monday, February 26, 2024.

The Senate had already confirmed the new justices of the supreme court on December 21, 2023.

Festus Akande, the Supreme Court’s spokesperson, confirmed that the swearing-in event would take place in the court’s main courtroom at 10:00 a.m.

Jummai Hannatu Sankey, Moore Aseimo A. Adumein, Haruna Simon Tsammani, Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa, and Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme are the justices scheduled to be sworn in.

The others are Justices Stephen Jonah Adah, Habeeb Adewale O. Abiru, Jamilu Yammama Tukur, Mohammed Baba Idris, Obande Festus Ogbuinya, and Abubakar Sadiq Umar.

The NNPP leader claimed in an interview with Punch that was published on Sunday, January 28, that the Kano tribunal’s and the Appeal Court’s decisions over the Kano governorship election were upsetting.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate for governor, Nasiru Gawuna, won at the tribunal and Appeal Courts, according to Olayokun, and the NNPP felt endangered. However, the Supreme Court ultimately came to the rescue.

He continued by saying that despite the NNPP receiving a resounding victory from Kano State voters, the events suggested that the APC intended to seize Kano State by whatever means necessary.

The NNPP scribe also questioned the judges’ choice to deliver their decision via Zoom at the Kano tribunal.
