According to The Nation, the Lagos State Police Command withdrew its warning yesterday to put an end to pop sensation 2Face’s anti-government demonstration scheduled for Monday.

Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni stated that at their meeting yesterday, the two parties decided to soften their hard line stances.

According to Owoseni, the police wanted nothing bad to happen to the demonstrators or other Lagos citizens, and they were worried about their safety.

“We met with the demonstrators and gave them an explanation of why we recommended against the protest,” he stated. That same day, a pro-government organization intends to demonstrate, and we don’t want anything to spark conflict.Additionally, we don’t want thugs to take over the proceedings and hurt the demonstrators.

Following their explanation, they promised to return and have more discussions. If they proceed, they would not stage a protest; instead, they would gather at a designated location and state their requests.

“Having said that, we have decided to give them security.” We won’t back down from our responsibility for it. We’ll make sure agitators don’t take over the procedure.

The Presidency further stated that Tuface and other Nigerians have the right to peaceful protest as a means of self-expression and that it had nothing against the protest.
