The Ogun State Police Command has detained 36-year-old Kingsley Essien on suspicion of trafficking his wife to Mali for prostitution and then selling her 2-year-old baby for N600,000.
According to a statement made public by the state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect was taken into custody after his wife, Bright Essien, filed a report at the Agbara divisional headquarters. She claimed that sometime in October 2021, her husband, Kingsley Essien, told her that he had found a job for her in Bamako, Mali, and that he had previously helped numerous people migrate there in search of better opportunities.

The PRO went on to say that during questioning, the suspect admitted to carrying out the crime and claimed to have sold his two-year-old son for 600,000 Naira.

Oyeyemi further stated that the suspect has been moved to the state criminal investigation and intelligence department’s anti-human trafficking and child labor unit for a covert investigation by police commissioner CP Lanre Bankole. In order to retrieve the kid who was taken, he also mandated that the son’s buyer be located and taken into custody.
