According to the Niger State Police command, a suspected bandit was slain in the Borgu local government area of Niger state while attempting to obtain a N3 million ransom.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the Niger state police, explained that the incident took place as a result of some bandits threatening to kidnap a businessman in the Bako-Mission area.

Abiodun said that the robbers gave the businessman instructions to leave N3 million at a specific location in Tunga-Umoru community.

In response, he said, the DPO of the New-Bussa Division ordered police officers and vigilantes to mobilize to the scene. They engaged the thieves in a gunfight and were able to successfully rescue a 22-year-old female victim who had been kidnapped earlier.

“As soon as this information was received, the police tactical team—which included vigilantes under the direction of DPO New-Bussa Div—moved quickly to mobilize to the alleged location, adopted a suitable operational strategy, and engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, saving the life of a female victim who had been abducted approximately 22 years earlier.

Thankfully, the group searched the area, neutralizing one of the robbers during the gunfight and finding his AK-47 weapon empty of a magazine.

He went on to say that more bandits who had managed to flee with gunshot wounds were being sought after.
