According to Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor of Edo State, he does not have a friendly connection with his principal, governor Godwin Obasek.

A protracted political rivalry has existed between Obaseki and Shaibu regarding the latter’s aspirations to become governor of Japan.

Shaibu said that his principal and he do not currently have a friendly or easy relationship in an interview that he did on Friday morning with Channels Television.

Governor Obaseki, according to the deputy governor, no longer returns his calls and disregards his polite but firm salutations.

“My relationship with the governor (Obaseki) is not cordial,” he declared.Despite my attempts to reach him, he doesn’t return my calls. At public events, I greet him, but he doesn’t respond.

“They wanted to disenfranchise me, but they were determined to fight for the party and protect its legacy—what we call the legacy coalition—so they didn’t follow the rules, and by God’s grace, the authentic party delegates voted for me.”

“You can take it to the bank—I’m the PDP candidate, and come September 2024, I’ll be the governor of Edo State and its flagbearer.

“In the upcoming days, we will be meeting with the party and other stakeholders, and they will see that, unless PDP is not interested in having a candidate, which I know they want to, they must allow Shaibu to remain in order for them to have a candidate in this election.”
