The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has been ordered by the Federal High Court in Lagos to provide an accounting of the entire yearly income received from parking fees and toll gates at all airports owned by the government.

FAAN was directed by the court to furnish information regarding the amount remitted between January 2015 and January 2024.

FAAN was given a three-month deadline by Judge Ibrahim Kala, who issued the ruling, to follow the instructions.

The court case was started by the Registered Trustees of The Centre for Law & Civil Culture, a public interest applicant, after FAAN did not reply to their August 24, 2022, request for information.

It is hereby declared that there has been a flagrant violation of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011 by the respondents’ refusal and failure to comply with the applicant’s requests for information on the total annual revenue generated from the toll gates and parking lots in each of the Federal Government owned airports across the Federal Republic of Nigeria since 2015 until now. The requests were made on dates 24/8/2021, 6/10/2021, and 22/4/2022.

The Federal Government of Nigeria owns all airports; therefore, an order of mandamus is hereby granted compelling the Respondent to provide the Applicant with the details of the statement of the accounts showing the total annual generated revenue from the toll gates and parking lots in each of the airports, as well as proof of yearly remittance.
