Famous Nigerian radio hostess Tolu Oniru, better known by her stage name Toolz, has disclosed how body-shaming almost put an end to her career.
In a lengthy statement on her Instagram page, the radio personality described how she was the victim of body shaming because of her body type.

She mentioned how her tweets while she was sleeping made her feel as though quitting her job would be the best course of action.

Let me now tell you about the time that body shaming nearly caused me to give up on my entire profession. My work as a host at Beat FM gave me my first taste of life in the spotlight. At first, the attention was great; nevertheless, it soon became negative and became detrimental. I mean really badly. There would be someone who didn’t agree with something.

When I woke up one morning and saw that I was trending on (then) Twitter, it was my breaking point. While I slept, I was trending! After a challenging week, discovering a plethora of deplorable posts that shamed my physique made me consider if this was the career for me. I simply wasn’t used to all the negativity, and at that point, I thought it would be best to give up. I wouldn’t have to put up with all the awful criticism, at least in that scenario.

After giving it some more thinking a few days later, I realized that I hadn’t moved to Lagos to let some trolls to bully me out of a job, and looking back, I’m so glad I hadn’t.
