Two residential buildings in the Jigawa local government area’s Kuraduge and Madachi villages collapsed on Monday, killing five people.

Speaking about the development, Alhaji Salisu Garba-Kubayo, Chairman of Kirikasamma Local Government, reportedly stated that the houses collapsed “during a heavy rainfall,” according to NAN.

“In Kuraduge village, three people were killed: Halima Manu, her daughter Aisha Manu, and her son Dauda Manu. In Madachi village, two people were killed: Musa Wuliwuli and his wife Hauwa Musa.

He said, “The rain also destroyed 200 houses in Kukadabu, 100 houses in Mattafari, and 30 houses in Kuraduge. The flood disaster affected most parts of the local government.”

He urged the Federal and Jigawa governments to assist the victims.

As we speak, heavy rains have caused nearly 30 communities in Kirikasamma to be overtaken by floods.

“The people in these communities have spent days and nights building sand-bag embankments to prevent flooding, thanks to the thousands of bags we have given them.

“However, it is beyond our ability to handle this issue; we need the Jigawa and Federal Governments to assist us,” he said.
