Tension as lawmakers move to impeach Zamfara Assembly Speaker, Moriki

On Thursday, there was unrest at the Zamfara State House of Assembly complex as eighteen of the twenty-four legislators attempted to remove Speaker Hon. Bilyaminu Moriki from office.

To stop mayhem, heavily armed security personnel have taken control of the complex’s Gusau entrance gate.

Plans to impeach the speaker have been finalized, a House member who requested anonymity told reporters over the phone.

On June 13, 2023, the seventh Zamfara State House of Assembly was opened.

In the House, the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, is represented by the majority of the legislators.
