The federal government has responded to the Organized Labor’s notice of strike by noting that some agreements made with its members during the negotiation meeting in October 2023 cannot be put into effect immediately.

Alabareports reminds us that on October 2, 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by government delegates and leaders of organized labor following the completion of a 16-point agreement.

In addition to finding a long-term solution to the naira’s devaluation, inflation, and insecurity, among other issues, the administration was expected to alleviate the suffering of the public caused by the elimination of fuel subsidies.

In response to the government’s handling of the matter, organized labor members stated that they would launch a statewide strike in 14 days, beginning on February 9, 2024, if those agreements were not carried out.
