Early results in the upcoming Bayelsa West senate byelection show that the ruling People’s Democratic Party, or PDP, is leading.
Following the election of Senators Douye Diri and Lawrence Ewhrujakpo as Bayelsa’s governor and deputy governor, respectively, the seats for Bayelsa West and Central became empty.

For the open Bayelsa West Senatorial district, the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state is fielding Peremobowei Ebebi, a former speaker of the Bayelsa state House of Assembly, against the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which is fielding Chief Henry Seriake Dickson, the immediate past governor of the state.

The figures that the Independent National Electoral Commission has compiled thus far indicate that the People’s Democratic Party, or PDP, is up early.

According to our correspondent in Yenagoa, a large number of people turned out to exercise their right to vote in the election.

You may remember that Peremobowei Ebebi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, was ruled ineligible to run in the Bayelsa West Senatorial byelection by the Federal High Court located in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

In a ruling on a case of forgery filed by Richman Samuel, the sitting judge, Justice Jane Inyang, upheld the plaintiff’s requests and ruled that the APC candidate was not allowed to run.

The plaintiff said that the defendant had falsified the voter’s card and academic qualifications that it had presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission for the bye-election.
