The Peoples Democratic Party of the state has been directed by a Bayelsa State High Court located in Yenagoa, the state capital, to pay the landlord of its secretariat complex N105 million in overdue rent arrears.
Judge T. I. Cocodia granted the landlord and former council chairman, Mr. Chubby Walson, the right to receive rent payments from the PDP for using his six-story building along the Alamieyeseigha Expressway in Yenagoa as the PDP’s corporate secretariat complex from August 2008 to the present. Justice Cocodia delivered the judgment in the suit no. YNC/50/2019 on Tuesday.

The ruling states, “That the PDP shall pay the landlord the amount of N85 million, which represents the remaining unpaid rent from July 2010 to July 2018 for a six-story building utilized as the party’s corporate secretariat in Bayelsa State.”

In addition, if the case continues into August 1, 2019, Justice Cocodia directed the PDP to give the landlord the N20 million in overdue rent for the months of July 2018 through July 2019.

Kelvin Ejelonu Esq., the landlord’s attorney, responded to the verdict by saying the claimant had proven his case beyond a reasonable doubt and that the court’s decision was well-deserved.
