According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a fire on Wednesday completely destroyed precious products at the Super Plaza on Akerele Street in the Surulere neighborhood of Lagos.

Many of the store owners were observed packing up their merchandise, including furniture, to lessen their losses, according to a NAN correspondent who was on the scene.

According to NAN, the plaza had a number of stores and places of worship, including Gift Gallery, Textiles and Fabrics, Dominion City Worship, Fountain Hall, and Omega Fire Ministries.

The Lagos State Fire Service and other emergency services were lauded by a witness, Mr. Abayomi Ayelomi, for their efforts in putting out the fire. He added that the structure was once known as Super Cinema before it was transformed into a commercial center.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu, the director-general of the Lagos Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), stated that an initial on-site assessment revealed that an electrical surge in one of the businesses was the cause of the fire before it spread to other areas of the plaza.

“At the fire scene, where properties worth a fortune have been lost to the inferno, no injuries or fatalities have been reported thus far.”

stated Oke-Osanyintolu.
