Joe Ajaero, National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has called on the Federal Government to make public the identities of individuals and businesses that received fuel subsidy.
He argues that since there is only one player in the market, market forces cannot be used as an excuse for gasoline pump price increases because the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), a private limited business, cannot set fuel pump pricing.

In an interview with Arise Television on Sunday night, Ajaero stressed the need for more information about gasoline subsidy payments, stressed the importance of comprehending Nigeria’s fuel subsidy situation, and called for openness.

Comrade Ajaero also emphasized the lack of market forces in the event that the Dangote Refinery continues to be the nation’s sole manufacturer of petroleum products.

He questioned the lack of activity in the refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna and stressed the need for diverse participants in the industry to fully experience market forces in the downstream sector.

He also questioned why fuel prices are set by market forces when there is only one player, threatening to raise petrol costs to N1000 per liter by December if Dangote remains the only player.
