The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) declared on Tuesday that it was prepared to close Ogun State.

The labor union declared that it was starting a large-scale, nonviolent demonstration that would stop all key state operations.

The NLC claims that this was in accordance with the resolution made by the Congress’s 12th National Delegates Conference in February about Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s purported anti-labor stance.

The NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, stated in a statement on Saturday that this was in response to Amosun’s threat to bring the NLC into disgrace if the scheduled protest goes forward.

“The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leadership has taken cognizance of a statement attributed to Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, wherein he threatened to disgrace the NLC leadership if the Congress insists on initiating a protest scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2019, in Ogun State,” he said. On March 1, 2019, Premium Times and other sites published a story about this.

“On Tuesday, March 5, 2019, the 12th National Delegates Conference of the NLC would carry out to the letter the decision to confront and engage governor Amosun.”
