Two students and one adult have been detained by the Bauchi State Police Command on suspicion of participating in an illegal cultist society, culpable homicide, and criminal conspiracy.

The suspects were identified as Hoomvez Martins Nyelong, 27, also known as “Slim,” Daniel Audu Adamu, 26, and Maigari Inuwa, 29, also known as “Mega Fashion World,” in a statement released on Friday by the command’s spokesman, Ahmed Wakili.

According to the statement, one of the suspects claimed to have graduated from the University of Jos, while the other two were students at the Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa University in Bauchi, ATBU.

Their detention came after a distress call on February 18 from a 45-year-old resident of Kuhu village in Durum ward, Bauchi Local Government Area, named Abubakar Shehu (pseudonym).

He claims that the police’s investigation showed the suspects belonged to a cult that was responsible for the horrific murders of the two victims.

In his own words, “Further investigation revealed that in the early hours of Sunday, 18/2/2024, the first suspect (Hoomvez Martins Nyelong) was seen in the area where the first corpse was found along with two others.”

Additionally, WhatsApp conversations discovered on his phone showed that he was the one who delivered the first body whose family showed there and identified the deceased as 32-year-old Reheboth Joseph Deshi of the Rafin Zurfi Yelwa district of Bauchi.

“Although an investigation is still in progress, we’re working harder to break through their enclaves and apprehend the last accomplice.”
