The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government have been instructed by the Court of Appeal in Abuja to consider reaching an out-of-court solution to end the current strike.
ASUU launched the strike in February, calling for a reassessment of lecturer pay and increased funding for universities, among other things.

In addition, the judge directed union members to return to their jobs while the substantive suit is being heard and decided.

Following the ruling, ASUU, through its legal team headed by Nigerian Senior Advocate Femi Falana, filed an appeal on 14 grounds.

In accordance with section 243 of the constitution, which demands permission from the court to appeal, the union is asking the appellate court for permission to submit the appeal.
