Shatta Wale has criticized other Ghanaian singers who support limiting the amount of Nigerian music played on Ghanaian radio stations. He stated in a series of X posts that he thought Nigerian music will continue to eclipse Ghanaian music, even in the event that Ghanaian media adopted the local content guideline.
According to him, even if the local content policy is put into place for airplay, the government cannot compel Ghanaians to stream music from the country, thus the policy won’t have much of an impact in the age of streaming.
According to the artist, Ghana will need “roughly the year 5050” to catch up to Nigeria in terms of musical output.
“The way Wizkid and Davido and Burna Boy love Ghana nu, you people wan play dem a song 20%?,” Shatta Wale wrote in Ghanaian Pidgin. Not an issue. Just one tune Go make your girlfriend wet all night long with those. It will take you all about 5050 years until you get what Naija is getting.
