According to seasoned actor Pete Edochie, he started performing before Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, was established.

The renowned actor claimed that Nollywood didn’t exist when he made his film debut in the 1985 version of Chinua Achebe’s book “Things Fall Apart.”

This was said by Edochie in a recent Afia TV interview.

“I’m a senior in the film industry,” he declared. There was nothing like Nollywood in 1985, when I did “Things Fall Apart.” Nollywood was by that point soundly dozing in the cosmos.

Seven years had passed when Nollywood produced “Living in Bondage.” I traveled the entire world before Nollywood emerged. With God’s particular favor, I received international recognition following my performance of “Things Fall Apart.”

“The BCC came to interview me here in Nigeria and then proceeded to interview Chinua Achebe in America.” “Pete Edochie gave that role an interpretation after my heart,” Achebe continued. He was referring to me as Okonkwo before he died.

“I joined Nollywood seven years after it was founded, after I retired from broadcasting.”
