Nwabali hero as Nigeria beats South Africa, reaches final

Yesterday, Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali emerged victorious against a resolute South Africa, securing a spot in the Africa Cup of Nations final in Cote d’Ivoire.

The game was tied 1-1 after 120 minutes of regulation play and extended time. However, the South African goalie, Ronwem Williams, who is known for his heroics in stopping penalties, rose to the situation and saved two penalty kicks as the Super Eagles defeated the Bafana Bafana.

Williams did not come close to save any of the five attempts the Eagles attempted yesterday in Bouake, indicating he thought the Nigerian players were too clinical with their kicks.

With a 4-2 shootout victory, Nigeria maintained composure and converted the game-winning penalty through substitute Kelechi Iheanacho.

Nigeria appeared to be coasting home when captain William Troost-Ekong’s spot-kick opened the score in normal time, especially when Victor Osimhen turned the ball home with five minutes left.
