MTV EMA proposes Burna Boy, Asake, and other artists for the Afrobeats category.

The MTV Europe Music Awards organizers have added a new category for 2023 dubbed “Best Afrobeats.”

The 2023 MTV EMA nominations, which were made public on Wednesday, featured the category.

The category’s pioneer nominees include Nigerian artists Asake, Arya Starr, Burna Boy, Davido, and Rema, as well as French sensation Aya Nakamura.

In the meantime, Rema and Selena Gomez’s smash single “Calm Down” received nominations for both “Best Song” and “Best Collaboration.”

In the “Best African Act” category, Asake, Burna Boy, Libianca, Diamond Platnumz, the Tanzanian singer, and Tyler ICU from South Africa were the nominees.

Burna Boy, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and other celebrities were also included in the “Best Live Performer” nomination list.

Taylor Swift, an American singer, received seven nominations., including “Best Song,” “Best Artist,” and “Best Video,” the last of which was awarded to her single “Anti-Hero.”

The 2023 MTV EMAs are set to take place in Paris, France on November 5, 2023.
