Lekki Phase 1 locals have expressed resistance to the Lagos government’s intentions to build a ferry terminal there.
Yomi Idowu, the chairman of the Lekki Residents Association (LERA), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that they have not received any word from the authorities yet.

Idowu emphasized that there were already a lot of private jetties and that Lekki Phase 1 was crowded.

While praising the idea, he pointed out that the site needed to be considered to avoid making the traffic problems worse.

“It is commendable since it will serve the entire axis, including up to Victoria Garden City,” he remarked. However, it is not required to be situated in the already crowded Lekki Phase 1 neighborhood.

On August 19, Lekki Estate Ferry Terminal Ltd. declared that work would start in September.

The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation will own the terminal, which would be located on the waterfront along Admiralty Way.

Lekki, Ajah, Igbo Efon, Ikota, Awoyaya, Lakowe, Sangotedo, and the surrounding areas would be served by it.
