Benin City, Edo State, is presently experiencing a protest. The unofficial N700 per litre increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, or PMS, as gasoline is more often called, is the cause of the protest.
With signs in hand, the demonstrators are requesting that the state government form a price control committee in order to monitor the cost of gasoline and other necessities.

Traffic was backed up as a result of the demonstration on Sapele Road, Ring Road, and other important thoroughfares in the city. Omobude Agho, the former coordinator-general of the Edo State Civil Society Organization (EDOSCO), bemoaned the immense suffering endured by the populace despite prosperity.

He called it anti-people, saying that Nigerians could no longer afford the misery brought on by the increase in gas prices.

It further stated that a monitoring committee would be established by the government in a day to make sure fuel merchants do not take advantage of the public.
